I AM the way, the truth, the life! Jesus….
What if you do not believe in Jesus?
Jesus has been a part of my life since I was a child. I was probably one of the few that were baptized twice, when I was born into the Lutheran church, though never went to one, and then later as a child starting school into the Catholic church. This is where I made all my sacraments. I mean, maybe there are people baptized more than once, though I have never met anyone yet. Growing up, I developed a relationship with Jesus going to a Baptist sunday school and then took a bus to another neighbors Sunday school at their church. I cannot remember what denomination it was and that did not matter to me, because in my little mind and heart Jesus was everywhere. I talked to him all the time as a child. A predominant memory I have, was when I was walking through the alley in our Chicago neighborhood to my cousin’s house, which was only around the block from me, I must have been in deep contemplation because all I remember was looking up to the sky and asking, “Jesus, what is the Truth?” As if I thought one religion should be the right one. Yet the Truth came to me in many other ways.
The rest of my life I feel, has been strongly guided by Christ and I owe it to the relationship I built with Jesus as a child- that stayed with me.
I did take different paths learning different beliefs from many different religions as I grew up. I was very interested in the Hindu and Buddhist religion’s and learned a lot as well from what people label as New Ager’s. My husband is FBI,(full blood indian lol) Native American as well. I resonated and still do with a lot of different beliefs, but I do not consider myself a New Ager nor do I consider myself a Christian in the religious sense. There was a time in my life I questioned my belief in Christ and I heard Him loud and clear, yet gentle and lovingly, “Are you ashamed of me?” I will never forget that voice with a profound message. I felt His presence while I was attempting hands on healing to my sick dog. That worked by the way, and another story. Anyway, it was like I was questioning a lifelong friendship. That was a wakeup call for me and my beliefs. Yet it is not what you might think. I may not want to be categorized as a Christian, because that is not what Jesus means to me, like what he means to everyone else. I have an ongoing inner personal relationship with Christ that is free and not under any control. That is the only way I know how to explain it as a spiritual person who has come full circle and who still believes in many other things that may not be interpreted from the bible in the way I perceive it. My perceptions come from seeking the truth and trusting in the answers I receive.
Jesus is my teacher and He guides me to the Truth. I cannot claim I know for sure what that truth is yet, but I am blessed to get bits and pieces revealed to me through my unwavering faith. He answered my questions as a child, throughout my lifetime and I have come to stand for what I believe in now. There is truth in all religions including the so called New Ager’s and ultimately we will continue to seek it even into the afterlife. The truth is God- and is incomprehensible in its entirety to our meager human minds.
So if you do not believe in Jesus, does that mean you will not get to Heaven? According to Christian belief in the scripture John 14:6, many people take it literal. The scriptures in the bible teach us a deep metaphysical and spiritual way of living. Too me, the bible is one of the mystical books ever written. Yet it isn’t the only one.
When Thomas said he did not know where Jesus was going and Philip wanted Jesus to show them the Father, Jesus had been explaining all along that if they really know Him, they know who the Father is. Jesus is the Father. The Father is IN HIM. So my understanding to this scripture is that Jesus is God.
Jesus is the embodiment of God. (as are we, as well!) God IS Love.
I AM are the most important words anyone can speak because I AM is the Alpha Omega, I AM is the infinite God; When Jesus says I AM the way, the truth, the life, what I truly believe it means is that the only way to the Father(heaven) is through LOVE. Jesus is LOVE.
John 14
Jesus, the Way to the Father
14 “Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. 2 There is more than enough room in my Father’s home.[a] If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you?[b] 3 When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. 4 And you know the way to where I am going.”
5 “No, we don’t know, Lord,” Thomas said. “We have no idea where you are going, so how can we know the way?”
6 Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. 7 If you had really known me, you would know who my Father is.[c] From now on, you do know him and have seen him!”
8 Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father, and we will be satisfied.”
9 Jesus replied, “Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and yet you still don’t know who I am? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father! So why are you asking me to show him to you? 10 Don’t you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words I speak are not my own, but my Father who lives in me does his work through me. 11 Just believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me. Or at least believe because of the work you have seen me do.
The belief that Jesus meant that if you do not believe in Him, you will not get to the Father in Heaven, cannot be taken literal. The truth within this scriptures meaning is that you will not get to heaven unless it is through LOVE. I mean where do people go if they are truly unloving? Another post to discuss.
There are so many loving people in this world that have many different beliefs and are of service and are kind and want to do good things for their fellow man that were not brought up to believe in Jesus. Do you think Jesus meant they will not enter Heaven because they do not know Him?
I have a hard time with that and I just do not believe that is what is meant from this scripture. I also add that there are many Masters that have embodied Love and it is through Love, no matter what your beliefs are, you will enter your own paradise.
What are your thoughts and beliefs?
